Ahead of this week's PlayStation State of Play event, a heavily rumoured new God of War game is expected to finally be revealed.
It feels like Kratos fans will be eating well in the coming months, not only with the God of War TV series from Amazon taking shape, but we could very well see a brand-new game in the series revealed this week.
It’s probably fair to say that while Santa Monica Studio’s God of War series has always been popular since its debut in 2005, the 2018 reboot on PlayStation 4 and its 2023 sequel, God of War Ragnarök, brought in a new legion of fans, as well as being able to please veteran fans, too.
The rise in popularity is no doubt a major factor in why we're getting the aforementioned live-action series, which has already cast its new Kratos.

However, as much as we’re looking forward to seeing whether or not the God of War Amazon series lives up to the expectations set by its video game counterpart, home is where the heart is, and we’d love nothing more than to be treated to a new video game offering.
While there is no solid news regarding a follow-up to God of War Ragnarök, there have been rumours in recent months that a new spin-off prequel is in the works. It’s believed that this spin-off will not be similar to other games in the series but rather, take inspiration from the Metroidvania genre.
Will God of War Be Revealed at State of Play?
Earlier this week, Sony announced that it will be hosting a 60-minute State of Play event this Thursday. At this time, no video game appearances have been confirmed, but speculation suggests that the rumoured God of War Metroidvania game will be revealed.
Video game industry insider, Shinobi602, teased that Cory Barlog, creative director at Santa Monica Studio, could feature at this week’s State of Play, which has obviously sparked the God of War reveal rumours.
Shinobi602, who has a reputation for being a reliable leaker, claimed that it wouldn't be surprising if a targeted release date were revealed. But also clarified that he has not confirmed that Cory Barlog will 100% feature in the show.
As always, unconfirmed rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise, but I hope that in this instance, there is no smoke without fire. We’ll keep you posted with all the State of Play announcements.
State of Play will air this Thursday on 12 February via YouTube and Twitch at 10pm GMT/2pm PT/5pm ET.
