God Of War fans divided over new prequel

It's all Greek to me

While it hasn’t been officially revealed, the God of War prequel game, set in Greece, is quickly becoming one of the industry’s worst kept secrets.

Rumoured for the past few months, the new game which would see the God of War franchise shift from 3D action game to 2.5D metroidvania, is dividing fans.

According to industry insider, Jeff Grubb, the game, which currently doesn’t have a known title, has been pushed back to 2026.

This fact has fans on Reddit discussing the potential return of Kratos, with mixed results.

“I thought it was far off, yay it's coming out sooner than I first thought,” commented ManateeofSteel.

Most aren’t seeing a huge problem with the rumoured delay, mostly due to it being a spin-off, rather than a mainline title.

“It's supposed to be a smaller scale, very niche 2.5D game, it doesn't really need a whole year of marketing. Especially since it's God of War, a franchise that markets itself like GTA,” said one Redditor.

These smaller games, set within larger franchises, are becoming more and more popular as it gives the fans a bite size taste of the series while waiting for the bigger releases to come down the pipe.

Some fans aren’t fully convinced by it, though, with one saying, “Could work, I guess.”

While another said, “I’m starting to wonder if that leak was originally one of those fake leaks meant to weed out leakers. It just feels that way to me.”

Fingers crossed we see something of it this year, confirming its existence, while also giving us something to look forward to.

“Did anyone really think this game was gonna release this year?” asked Southern-Analyst2163.

It’s hard to know whether to believe rumours or not, fans just want more of what they love, and I’d say if they heard about this game, they certainly wanted it and hope it would arrive in 2025.
