Sucker Punch, the studio behind the likes of several PlayStation classics such as Sly Cooper and Infamous, recently announced a sequel to their beloved 2020 hit Ghost of Tsushima… and, naturally, that’s upset a lot of people.

Ghost of Yōtei, set to release in 2025, has drawn a lot of ire from “gamers” (using it in the derogatory sense here) who have taken issue with the fact that you’ll no longer be playing as Ghost of Tsushima’s protagonist Jin Sakai.

Instead, you’ll have to play as a woman. Oh, the humanity. Won’t they think of the children?!

Take a look at the Ghost of Yōkei trailer below.

In a recent post on the PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch went into detail regarding their decision to introduce a new protagonist in the sequel (not that they really had to justify it in the first place).

As senior communications manager Andrew Goldfarb explains, "When we set out to make a new Ghost game, we wanted to maintain the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in Feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world.”

“To create something fresh but familiar, we looked beyond Jin Sakai's story and the island of Tsushima, and shifted our focus to the idea of the Ghost instead… we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it could mean to have a new hero wearing a Ghost mask, and uncovering a new legend. This led us to Ghost of Yōtei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”

That bit about origin stories definitely rings true in Sucker Punch’s case, especially when you consider that the team changed their protagonist three times between Infamous 2, Infamous Second Son, and Infamous First Light.

Plus, let’s be real; Jin Sakai’s story was entirely wrapped up by the end of Ghost of Tsushima and its Iki Island DLC.

Spoiler alert, but he successfully managed to defeat Khotun Khan’s army and even came to terms with his father’s death by the end of Ghost of Tsushima.

For that reason, as beloved as he is, we don’t need another Jin Sakai story. But another Ghost game? Hell yeah, sign me up brother.
