If you want to play some free multiplayer this weekend, then you’re in luck because you can get all the online goodness until your heart's content.

As part of Sony’s 30-year celebrations of PlayStation, fans can look forward to free trials with Gran Turismo 7 named as example, and Spotify soundtracks from iconic franchises, as well as snazzy new merch, tournaments and free online multiplayer.

Developed by Team Asobi, the 30th celebrations arrive just in time for Astro Bot, released today. It is already considered to be one of the best PlayStation exclusives ever. At the time of writing, Astro Bot has a very impressive Metacritic score of 94, earning the “Must-Play” accolade.

In our review of Astro Bot, GAMINGbible’s Kate said: “I entered the game hoping it would recreate the same sense of magic that Astro’s Playroom brought to life so wonderfully, but what I instead discovered was a true elevation in every sense. With this release, Astro has firmly cemented his status as an icon of the platforming genre.”

This weekend, if you can pull yourself away from Astro Bot, you can play online multiplayer for free on PS5 and PS4. Typically, you would need a PlayStation Plus subscription, but that will not be the case from 21 September to 22 September 2024.

Blimey, it's been 30 years already?! 🥳

What’s more, for those that have a competitive nature, Sony will be hosting esports tournaments for EA UFC 25, Guilty Gear Strive, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25 and Tekken 8. Best of all, you can attempt to qualify for the esports tournaments over the free multiplayer weekend to compete against some of the best players in the world.

By taking part in the esports tournaments, you can win an exclusive 30th-anniversary avatar as well as “other game-specific prizes.” Good luck.

Astro Bot is out now exclusively for PlayStation 5.
