Two classic PS1 games are now available to buy on PlayStation 4 and 5 without having to fork out for an expensive PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

We all like PlayStation Plus, right? It’s got enough games on it that’ll last you your entire life and it isn’t overly expensive to get in on one of the cheaper tiers.

But there’s no denying that Premium tier can be a little expensive, especially if you just want to dip in to a few classic games from your younger years.

So it’s frustrating when there are some games only available to play by subscribing to the highest subscription tier, and aren’t available as a standalone purchase from the store.

Speaking of which, take a look at the games you can stream via PlayStation Plus Premium.

But now, Capcom has made two games from its classic PS1 library available to purchase separately after they were previously restricted to PlayStation Plus Premium users only.

The games are Resident Evil: Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis. The latter has been on the service since October, while the former has been on there since the PlayStation Plus revamp in 2022.

Up until now, both of these titles could only be played by buying in to PlayStation Plus Premium, the most expensive tier of Sony’s subscription service.

To put things into perspective, one month of Premium costs £13.49 / $17.99, while one year is £119.99 / $159.99. So you can see why it might have been a little frustrating if you just wanted to outright buy the games without a subscription.

Fans are pleased with this news. Over on the Resident Evil subreddit, one user wrote: “Thank god, so ridiculous these were exclusive to the highest tier of a subscription service.”

Dino Crisis fans echoed the sentiment, with one Reddit user calling it “another reason to keep on living”.

Both Resident Evil: Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis are available to buy on the PlayStation Store for £7.99 / $9.99. If you have an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, don’t worry, they’re still available to play at no extra cost.
