May is shaping up to be yet another incredible month when it comes to big game releases but this upcoming action title deserves to stand amongst the greats.

Luckily, that is now possible for PlayStation users.

This month will see big releases such as DOOM: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring: Nightreign burst onto the scene but hidden amongst these greats is an action-adventure title which is set to release on the 22.

Check out the trailer for Blades of Fire below!

Developed by MercurySteam, the studio behind Metroid Dread, Blades of Fire will see you take on the role of Aran de Lira on his journey to find the real purpose of his fate.

“You are Aran de Lira, firstborn of the King’s Ward,” the synopsis reads.

“The newly crowned Queen Nerea has cast a spell that turns steel into stone. Only her army of abominations wield the divine metal against which other blades shatter.”

In order to face fierce enemies in unique combat, you will need to forge your own weapons by finding Forge Scrolls around the world.

Once you have them, you will be able to forge your own weapon to suit your playstyle and your chosen weapon and the materials you create it with will affect its weight, length, durability, penetration, and edge quality.

With seven different weapon types and 30 Forge Scrolls to discover, you can create a unique arsenal which will help with your fight against the Queen’s guards, creatures, undead, and more.

Blades of Fire releases on 22 May but ahead of its release, PlayStation 5 users will be able to try before they buy courtesy of a demo being added to the PS Store.

This was announced by the official Blades of Fire Twitter account and reveals that the demo will be “coming soon to Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, ahead of our official launch”.

So if you are interested in trying out Blades of Fire, keep an eye out for this free-to-play demo which I’m sure will be released over the next few days.
