A PlayStation 2 classic is finally getting the sequel we've been waiting for

The Witcher 4? Elden Ring: Nightreign? A new Naughty Dog game? Who cares, Capcom's best game is finally getting a sequel.

There were dozens of incredible reveals and trailers at The Game Awards last week.

We got trailers for stuff like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Turok: Origins, The Witcher 4, Split Fiction, Elden Ring: Nightreign, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds; incredible, massive reveals that pale in comparison to the fact that we are getting a new Ōkami game.

Check out the trailer for The Witcher 4 below

Alright, my bias might be showing a little here, but in my defence, it has been a long old time since we got a new Ōkami game.

The first Ōkami game dropped back in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, and, even though it was a massive hit with critics, its positive reception failed to garner the title decent sales numbers.

Roughly a year after its release, it was revealed that the title sold somewhere around 270,000 copies.

Not awful, especially for 2006, but considering its budget and the fact that Capcom were the publisher behind the title, it was enough for its director Hideki Kamiya to brand Ōkami a “failure.”

However, the years have been kind to Ōkami. Its spiritual successor, the 2011 Nintendo DS release Ōkamiden, was considered a moderate commercial success.

Following the release of Ōkami HD in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows, sales numbers exploded. Capcom themselves have stated that the combined sales numbers for the franchise now exceed 4.2 million units.

Now, more than 14 years after the release of the last new game in the franchise, we finally have confirmation of an Ōkami sequel.

You guys enjoy your fancy new Naughty Dog IP and your much anticipated The Witcher sequel, but I’ll be over here counting down the days until I can play Ōkami 2.

If you’ve never played the original game, I highly recommend checking it out because even the original, non-”HD” version of Ōkami on the PlayStation 2 hasn’t aged a day.

It is quite possibly the most beautiful game on the system, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same statement ends up being true for Ōkami 2 as well.
