For a lot of gamers – myself included – Super Mario 64 was one of the first games where we were introduced to Mario. Some of you will have played the earlier titles, but a lot of us remember the heady days of Nintendo 64 Mario.

Thankfully, we can take a trip down memory lane thanks to the Nintendo Switch port of this classic. Still, while it's an enjoyable experience, it has its limits; once you finish it, that's that.

Oh, we've come a long way from Super Mario 64 to get to the joy that is Super Mario RPG.

But does that need to be the case? Not if you play Super Mario 64 Infinite.

This is a PC mod for the PC port of the original N64 game, but unlike the original, it randomly generates levels so that you're never without something to do. "Infinite" in the title should give it away, but not every game is quite as literal as this.

You're unlikely to get bored because the mod keeps churning out new levels for Mario to bounce his way through, essentially meaning you can play the game indefinitely and not get the same level twice (don't hold us to that, we're short of time and can't really commit to testing the "forever" claim).

As its creator points out, "it's still a work in progress", meaning fans who play it need to expect tweaks as it gets updated and bugs are ironed out. Still, so far the feedback is mostly positive, with players loving being able to dive into this whimsical world seemingly without an end in sight.

This "excellent" opportunity to never leave Mario's side is available to download here. Go forth, my good friends, and relish an endless loop of possibilities with your beloved partner, Mario, by your side. Jump, dash, and "yippee" your way to the finish line, only to do it all over again.
