Super Mario 64 free download available now for Nintendo Switch gamers

Nintendo Switch gamers can grab some Super Mario 64 freebies right this second, but you may want to jump on this one ASAP before they disappear forever.

I don’t think there’s anything I can say about Super Mario 64 that hasn’t been said before.

Directed and produced by Nintendo superstar Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario 64 is (rightly) considered to be one of the most seminal video games ever made, and it’s responsible for pioneering several elements of 3D movement and game design that are staples in almost every platformer that has succeeded it.

It’s a bit of a trite comparison perhaps, but I’ve often considered Super Mario 64 to be the video gaming equivalent of The Godfather. Everyone knows it, almost everyone has played it, and it’s kind of impossible to dislike it.

And now you can show off your love for this 1996 Nintendo 64 classic on the Nintendo Switch, because several Super Mario 64 NSO Icons are now available to download and keep for free.

As noted by the NSO Icon Alerts Twitter account, a dozen Super Mario 64-related icons can now be yours for free (as long as you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscriber).

They’re not available for long however, as they’ll be replaced with a new set of NSO Icons once 31 March rolls around - so make sure you grab these quick before they’re gone for good.

Although, saying that, some of the NSO Icons featured are actually re-releases from late 2022, according to NSO Icon Alerts. This is a bit of a rarity as far as NSO Icons go, as they usually disappear forever once they’re replaced.

Personally, I’m gonna be rocking the NSO Icon of Tuxie the Penguin from this point onwards. Look at that little cutie, not a single thought behind those eyes.
