Nintendo Switch gamers livid as game pulled with zero warning

A bad move from Nintendo

Nintendo Switch fans are disappointed and angry at the news that Nintendo is pulling a game from their subscription service.

Nintendo Switch Online allows users to play a wealth of retro games from Nintendo’s history, with some of the most popular games of all-time available.

It turns out that Nintendo is pulling Super Formation Soccer from the service, and fans on Reddit aren’t happy.

Interestingly, it’s not the game itself causing the commotion, but the act of removing it in the first place.

“Nintendo and other Japanese companies just do not care about archival and preservation. We unfortunately live in a dire age where corporations can take away content that you love,” comments Apprehensive_You7871.

I have to agree with many of the comments - it’s not just Nintendo and Japanese companies, game preservation absolutely sucks.

Another Redditor chimes in, decrying subscription services generally, saying, “Why are people surprised? This is why subscription services suck. And why we shouldn't support them.”

Sadly, subscription service catalogues can be changed at any point, removing a game you’re halfway through, or planning on getting to soon.

While many may not miss Super Formation Soccer, its removal is a symptom of a growing problem in the industry.

“Another W for running your own emulators. I know my library will remain intact,” comments divinecomedian3.

Though this is something not all gamers are happy to do, or even able to do.

Being able to play classic games on modern hardware is a wonderful accessibility feature for more casual fans who want to occasionally dip their toes into the past.

Removing games, regardless of quality or popularity, also removes key moments in the history of games, and the hard work of developers.

I’ve lamented this practice, and Nintendo’s reluctance to focus on their past, a few times, but we’re unlikely to see this change.
