Free Pokemon card offer confirmed at 13 retailers but you'll have to move fast
Pokémon TCG collectors are always on the lookout for rare cards to add to their collection, or at least rip from the hands of scalpers.
2026 is a big year for all things Pokémon-related as it’s the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and as such there are plenty of goodies TCG fans should be on the lookout for.
To celebrate the monumental milestone, participating retailers are going to be in possession of a Mewtwo card.
The promo card depicts the legendary Pokémon standing tall in his OG form, with a 30th anniversary logo slapped on for good measure.

According to the official Pokémon website, from October 2 onwards, you may be able to add this card to your collection depending on where you live in the world. Below are the locations and retailers that’ll carry them.

Pokemon scalpers are the real-life Team Rocket
The fear here is that scalpers will see these limited-run cards and do everything in their power to grab more than they’re owed.
In theory, it should be tricky for them to scalp this Mewtwo card. For starters, we don’t know how many will be produced nor what that’ll look like on the second-hand market.
Most stores have also gotten good at imposing one item per customer restrictions, so it’s unlikely anyone’s going to be walking away with more than one Mewtwo card at a time.
However, it almost feels inevitable that sites like eBay will be filled with these cards once they're available on October 2. It’s a shame because it ruins what should be a delightful little hobby.

Other Pokémon TCG 30th anniversary products
Going live today, September 16, is a new Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration collection. This is going to be a must-buy for anyone who grew up with these cards, or those who just have a passion for the glory days of Pokémon.
The new collection features reprints of some classic cards with their original artwork intact, but plenty of cards will boast all-new artwork as well.
You’ll also find one of 30 unique Pikachu cards in every single booster pack, and we’re sure plenty of fans out there are going to want to collect them all.
After a quick scan online, there seem to be loads of these packs available from major retailers like Amazon, and your local card shops will probably have a decent supply too. That’s not to say you shouldn’t act fast, though, as should the cards prove to be valuable, they’ll surely run out fast.
The 30th anniversary of Pokemon is shaping up to be a hectic affair, but the real prize is surely that Mewtwo card. Remember: October 2 at participating retailers!
