If you’re an old-school Pokémon fan, then you’re going to love Pokémon Prisme - a free game that has over 175 quests and more than 380 creatures to catch.
Ever since the Pokémon series made its debut in 1996 with Red, Green and Blue, it’s been one of Nintendo’s most popular properties that continues to garner a new generation of fans to this very day.
That lends itself very nicely to fan games, no matter how quickly they're often taken down by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company.
For fans of challenge Nuzlocke runs, you've got the infamous Pokémon Emerald Kaizo.

Or, if you want something that completely flips the genre of its head, look no further than Pokémon Infinite Fusion, that lets you blend Mon's together in a harrowing... Well, fusion, to create never-before-seen teams.
This latest fan game is something really special though, and it's got features fans have been asking for from Pokémon since the very beginning.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Arrived Last Year to Critical Success
In terms of the mainline games, the most recent entry in the series is Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which was released on the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.

“When all is said and done, I think Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a fantastic Pokémon game,” said GAMINGbible’s Sam in his review.
“The new battle mechanics are a stellar addition to the formula, and it was great to see Mega Evolutions return in such bombastic fashion. It feels like the continuation Pokémon X & Y needed but never got, as it’s always felt like those games never truly got the love, respect and time they deserved.”
However, as good as it can be playing the modern version of Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch consoles, sometimes it’s nice to take a much-needed trip to Nostalgia Lane.
Pokémon Prisme Is a Free Game Made by Fans!
Thankfully, the talented community has us covered. More specifically, a new fan-made Pokémon game that looks to be inspired by HeartGold and SoulSilver, which were released on the Nintendo DS in 2009/2010.

The fan game in question is called Pokémon Prisme, which has been in development since 2012. So to say that this game has been a long time coming would be an understatement.

Not only does Pokémon Prisme feature over 175 quests and 380 Pokémon to catch, but it also includes four regions (and two more to come), is compatible with a controller and Steam Deck, has a trade function and best of all, it’s totally free.
“13 years have passed since the victory of the legendary Red over the Pokémon League of Kanto. The peace is back in the Pokéworld, despite a suspicious activity of Team Rocket, recently spotted in the Unova region,” reads the synopsis of Pokémon Prisme.
“You are 18 years old, from Pallet Town, village of heroes. The renowned Professor Oak requires your immediate help to deliver an important package in Viridian City. Of course, you will need a partner... Your journey can finally start!”
What’s more, the developers of Pokémon Prisme have promised that new features will be added to the game over a series of free content updates. We can’t wait to see more!
