Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is getting a glorious Unreal Engine remake by a very dedicated and talented fan.

Originally released in 1997 on PC by LucasArts, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is a beloved FPS that, to this day, fans still have a lot of love for, and if you’re one of those fans, this news should delight you.

“Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II picks up where the award-winning Dark Forces game left off...with even more features and firepower in dazzling 3D graphics,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“As Kyle Katarn, you must acquire a lightsaber and learn the ways of the Force to become a Jedi Knight.”

In early 2024, the original game in this series, Star Wars: Dark Forces, received an official remaster on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Judging by its Steam reviews at least, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster was well received, earning a “Very Positive” rating from users. So, naturally, fans will be eager for the sequel to have the same treatment.

At this time, no official remaster for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II has been announced, but as reported by DSOGaming, a fan has taken matters into their own hands, going one step further by remaking it using Unreal Engine 4.

The remake in question, created by Ruppertle, has been nearly three years in the making, and the indie developer recently uploaded a video to YouTube to give followers an update on its progress.

The latest video showcases the remake’s impressive water physics from the level ‘The Return Home to Sulon.’ All in all, it looks like the project is coming along swimmingly.

At the time of writing, there appear to be no plans from the developer to port the project over to Unreal Engine 5 and to be honest, that’s not the end of the world.

There is also currently no release date announced for the remake, but as they say, “good things come to those who wait.”
