A new Skyrim expansion has overhauled the game in a very brutal way, but I feel like it might be for the better.
It’s fair to say that Bethesda employs a very specific type of combat for its Elder Scrolls games. Skyrim fans either love it or hate it, with those falling into the latter camp sometimes trying to overhaul the combat with mods.
A new mod uploaded to NexusMods aims to do just this by tweaking some of the combat mechanics to fit a more strategic or tactical gameplay style.
Skybane: The Logic of Death, created by Skyrim modder Zzyxzz, rebuilds the game’s hidden damage rules in a D&D-inspired way.

The mod essentially changes how certain types of weapons interact with specific characters.
For example, using a hammer is more likely to shatter bones, while arrows can splinter on older, tougher enemies.
It becomes more about knowing who your enemies are and what their weaknesses may be. It’s imperative to keep different weapons handy in case you come up against someone with a natural resistance or weakness to those elements.
Skybane has tweaked the hidden stats of many different types of enemies as a result.

More examples include giants having a weakness to axes, or draugr being stronger against arrows.
The full effects of the mod can be ready over on the NexusMods page. Zzyxzz does a good job of breaking everything down and explaining exactly how things have changed.
It sounds like a great mod for those who have since grown tired of Skyrim’s vanilla combat. If you desire a little more strategy out of your Skyrim playthroughs, this might be the mod for you.
You can download Skybane: The Logic of Death from NexusMods now.
