A brand new mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has added an alternative way to complete one of the bleakest quests in the whole game, allowing you to finally give this downer of a questline a happy ending.

If you’re the type to poke through every nook and cranny of Bethesda’s Skyrim, you may have discovered the unmarked quest 'Forgotten Names'.

During the quest, you’re supposed to pick up where four students of the College of Winterhold left off, by hunting down a Daedric relic and subsequently deciding the fate of the Dremora pirate Velehk Sain.

The thing is, once you start the quest, you find out that the students who were searching for the Daedric relic are already dead. At this point, you’re supposed to find their unique rings to complete the quest. Basically, no matter what you do, the students are already dead.

Well, one user over on NexusMods clearly wasn’t happy with this outcome, because they’ve put together a new way to solve the quest in their mod 'Put Them To Rest - Forgotten Names Quest Addon'.

As mod author kuroishitam explains, their rings now allow you to “summon the ghost of the corresponding deceased students”, and you’re given two different options for putting their souls to rest. One of them is, unsurprisingly, a lot more gruesome than the other.

From there, the rest is actually a bit of a spoiler, so I’d highly suggest you simply download this one and give it a go if you’re that curious about how the whole thing ends.

That being said, this mod is extremely fresh, to the point that it only has two endorsements (as of writing), so you may want to hold off and wait for some more feedback from the NexusMods community before committing to it.
