One of the more fascinating opportunities in video games is being able to glitch out of bounds, through the confines of the map.
This is abused a lot in speedrunning to reach certain parts of the world much faster, but occasionally it can happen at random in a normal playthrough, though one Skyrim player purposely stepped over the boundary and found something pretty cool.
Reported over on Reddit, A_Salty_Cellist noted seeing a large white tower sprouting from the ground, and wondered what it could be.

In their thread, they comment that it “Reminds me of something from Oblivion,” the previous entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise.
There’s a reason for that, and it’s explained by other Redditors in the replies.
“Whelp, straight south from Whiterun is the Imperial City where you'd expect to find the White-Gold Tower. Checks out,” said brightblade13.
The Imperial City being a major landmark in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, it’s simply put there by Bethesda to show the landscape flowing seamlessly, and building up the surrounding country.

“It’s because in certain locations it’s visible from Skyrim,” said Own_Breadfruit_7955.
After being asked where players can see the tower in Skyrim, they continue, saying, “Throat of the world and other tall mountains south Skyrim, Meridia when she teleports you in the sky, and the map.”
After so many years, it seems everything has been found in Skyrim, even the things that the development team tucked away out of bounds.
That won’t stop players from investigating at every opportunity, trying to seek out the tiny details that we may have overlooked.

If you’re interested in seeing the tower for yourself, either head up the Throat of the World and look out across the landscape, or find yourself a sneaky way of getting out of the map to explore freely.
