Rockstar Games is solely focused on Grand Theft Auto VI with pre-orders now well and truly underway.
It certainly doesn’t have time to think about the eight-year-old Red Dead Redemption 2.
Unfortunately, it’s about time we accepted that Red Dead Redemption 2 might never receive a new-gen update.
After years of insiders claiming that one is on the way only for nothing to appear, you have to start being a realist; let’s face it, with GTA VI’s numerous delays, Rockstar has had plenty of chances to throw it our way.

As for why Rockstar Games has never launched a new-gen update, it’s a baffling one to ponder.

To this day, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the best-looking games out there, but unlocking a 60fps mode would most definitely be welcomed by most players.

Many titles were doing this within the first year of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S’ availability, so I can’t imagine there were technical hurdles to overcome.
Thankfully, one dedicated fan has finally created somewhat of a next-gen upgrade.
The ‘Next-Gen DualSense Features for RDR2’ mod can be downloaded on PC and does precisely what it says on the tin. It adds what Rockstar Games clearly won’t.
There’s no 60fps mode to see here, but NexusMods creator Nodixtech has basically ticked every other box.
“Bring the true power of your PlayStation 5 DualSense controller to Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC,” begins the mod’s description.
“This mod seamlessly integrates with DualSenseX (DSX) to provide incredibly realistic Adaptive Triggers and dynamic light bar feedback tailored specifically to RDR2's gameplay mechanics.”
There are unique weapon profiles tied to the DualSense’s adaptive triggers, so while revolvers and pistols will feel sharp, repeaters and rifles will feel heavier.
Shotguns and snipers have the stiffest controls of the lot, with bows building up tension before vibrations kick in.
There’s even weapon degradation feedback. For example, if your weapon is dirty, the trigger will become stiffer to pull.
You’ll need to use Gun Oil or visit a gunsmith to rectify the issue.
The adaptive triggers can change during activities like fishing, horse riding, and more.
As for the light bar, that’ll indicate your health most of the time, but it’ll also start flashing if you acquire too high a wanted status.

One user referred to the mod as “flawless” while another said it was “pretty good”.
You’ll need to be playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC to enjoy this one with a PlayStation DualSense controller to hand.
It doesn’t quite make up for Rockstar Games’ lack of an official new-gen update, but it certainly doesn’t hurt either to have a snippet of what may or may not ever arrive.
