Incredible Skyrim Game Mode Has 1,900 Mods, 'Completely Stable'

The definitive Skyrim?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim looks practically unrecognisable when you cram it full of mods. And yet it still plays like a dream apparently.

Bethesda got incredibly lucky with its fanbase, as with a dedicated modding community it feels like so many of its games would have been left in the dust when a new entry launches. The developer even encourages mods through the Creation Club.

Mods are a great way of keeping an old game fresh and there’s no game that knows that more than Skyrim, which is still going strong in the year of our Lord 2026 through fan-made updates and expansions.

Though if you’re wondering just how far you can push Skyrim when it comes to modding, look no further than the ludicrously impressive Gate to Sovngarde mod collection.

It’s an older collection of mods but still incredibly impressive, and many players are only just discovering what it can do.

SynthPotato on X recently made a post about it, calling it a “shockingly amazing experience” as they played with its 1,900 mods.

“Not only is it completely stable,” they continued, “it transforms Skyrim while still keeping its original core. It still feels like I am playing Skyrim unlike some mod collections out there that turn it into a different game, but it focuses massively on enhancing the immersion of the game.”

The mod pack is so good that it has earned a few comparisons to some of the best open-world games in gaming, like Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 and CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. Of course Skyrim has always deserved to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with these icons of gaming but even more so with modern improvements like this mod pack brings.

SynthPotato closed of their mini-review by saying: “And all I've described is just scratching the surface, there are a ton of new quests, new lands, new gear, dungeons, choices, expanded quests, every single mechanic in Skyrim has been touched up in some way to ensure a more immersive, more role-playing experience is achieved. It is insane what you can do with Skyrim modding 2026.”

As usual you can find Gate to Sovngarde on NexusMods, and it’s of course completely free to download.

While The Elder Scrolls VI probably isn’t launching anytime this year, unless Bethesda shadow drops the thing, modded Skyrim will seemingly keep us occupied for as long as it takes.
