As an avid Fallout fan, it really does feel like we're in a bit of a golden age for exciting new properties set within the wider world that Interplay created all those years ago, before Bethesda took over the reins.

Obviously, the big missing piece of that equation is a brand new mainline game in the series, but with the second season of the Prime Video show set to debut on 17 December, there's plenty to look forward to in the near future.

If you are looking to get your post-apocalyptic fix from a video game in the meantime, the old 3D titles are still well worth revisiting, and New Vegas still stands as the best of those in many peoples eyes.

That doesn't mean that your only choice is to go back and play the base game, though, as in all fairness, it has started to look a little dated after more than a decade and a half out in the wild.

In fact, it is possible to make the game look like a recent release, if you know what you're doing and have the tech to back it up.

New Vegas Fan Remaster Totally Changes the Aesthetic

Over on YouTube, tech and gaming channel Digital Dreams shared another gameplay showcase, this time focusing on everything they had managed to do to their copy of New Vegas on the PC.

As you might expect if you're a regular watcher of the channel, the whole thing is rendered in 4K resolution with a ton of lighting presets and graphical updates that make the game look pretty unrecognisable.

The Ray Tracing elements also make a huge difference to the game's overall look, adding a ton of shadows that make the darker corners of the Mojave Wasteland all the more creepy.

The man behind the footage is Greg Coulthard, who regularly ports older games into Unreal Engine 5 to show off an example of what they might look like if made today.

In even cooler news, you can try it out for yourself by signing up to his Discord, where everything he uses to make it a reality is available to download for free.

In the meantime, we'll just have to hope for a remake in the fullness of time, or perhaps even the long-awaited sequel, which is marginally more likely now Tim Cain has returned to Obsidian.

Though he claims we won't guess what he's working on, that's exactly what he would say if it was New Vegas 2. We see you, Mr Cain.
