Fallout season two is nearly upon us, and this free New Vegas mod is the perfect way to get into the spirit.

The Fallout series is not only one of Bethesda’s most popular properties alongside the likes of The Elder Scrolls and DOOM, but is also one of the most popular properties in the video game industry, without question.

The popularity of Fallout is why we’ve seen sequels and spin-offs since its inception in 1997, before Bethesda even acquired its license and launched its first game with Fallout 3 in 2008 (my favourite game in the series, it has to be said).

One of the most popular entries in the post-apocalyptic series is 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas, which was originally intended to be an expansion to Fallout 3, before Bethesda decided to release it as a standalone game. As it turned out, that was a fantastic decision.

In 2024, we were treated to Amazon’s live-action Fallout series, which was well-received across the board from both fans of the video game franchise and those who have never played a game in their lives.

Fallout Season Two is Finally Here

Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Fallout season two, which premieres on Prime Video this Wednesday (17 December), and it takes us to New Vegas.

However, if you’ve got some time to spare and are looking to rekindle the love for Fallout: New Vegas, then you might want to check out this fan-made free DLC.

The free DLC in question is the mod ‘Long 15 - NCR Expansion’ created by Long 15 Team, and it’s available to download now via Nexusmods.

“Long 15 - NCR Expansion rebuilds the Long 15 (Lonesome Road) location from the ground up, allowing players to visit it before the nukes and influence its role in the Wasteland,” reads the description of the mod. “Visit the NCR at the height of their power, and either strengthen their rule or wreak havoc on their lands!”

The mod adds over 30 new quests, new factions, over 200 lines of NPC dialogue, player choice with consequences, and much more. In total, ‘Long 15 - NCR Expansion’ promises around 20 hours of new content.

Sadly, as is the case with most mods, this is a PC exclusive. For the rest of us, we can play Fallout: New Vegas as intended on PC and Xbox via backwards compatibility. It is also available on modern PlayStation consoles, but requires a PlayStation Plus subscription.
