Just when you thought that Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City couldn't get any more ruthless, along comes this game-changing mod.

Developed by CD Projekt RED, despite its very rocky launch, Cyberpunk 2077 is now one of the most beloved sci-fi RPGs in recent times, and fans cannot wait for its sequel, whenever that time might come.

Its neon-lit location of Night City can be as gorgeous as it is seedy. It has a plethora of interesting NPCs with stories to tell, and above all else, it’s just simply a fun game to play.

What’s more, even on the standard difficulty setting, its combat can offer quite the challenge if you’re not careful and go all guns blazing. However, if you're after a steeper challenge with added survival mechanics, then look no further than this free mod.

That mod is ‘Survival System’ created by DiCrash and is available via Nexusmods. “A simple survival system that fundamentally changes the importance of food, water and rest,” reads its description.

In this challenging mod, you have to ensure that you maintain the well-being of V, such as their energy, satiation and hydration levels.

If you fail to maintain V’s energy levels, such as making sure to get rest, energy can be completely drained within six in-game days. By not feeding them frequently, satiation will deplete within 10 in-game days. Finally, the hydration can be drained in just four in-game days.

This mod even makes food and drink more expensive in Night City, so there’s a good chance that you might become desperate to earn much-needed in-game cash, which will surely ramp up the tension.

Sadly, as is the case with most mods, ‘Survival System’ is a PC exclusive.

For the rest of us, we can enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 as intended on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
