Two classic Resident Evil games return in a new release amidst remake rumours as we prepare for the release of Requiem.
Since its inception in 1996 on the original PlayStation, Capcom’s Resident Evil series has been one of the most iconic in video game history, and if anything, it seems to be more popular today than it has been for a long time.
Sure, we’ve had some stinkers along the way, but for the most part, the original Resident Evil trilogy will forever remain all-time classics. The 2002 Resident Evil remake on the Nintendo GameCube is one of the best remakes ever, and the games of the modern era have helped usher in a new legion of fans.
The most recent game in the Capcom series is the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, starring Grace Ashford, and will see players return to the nuked Raccoon City for the first time in 30 years (for a mainline game).

After what felt like an agonising wait, this week, Capcom finally made Resident Evil Requiem live for pre-orders, which includes more than one version of the game available at launch.
However, before Resident Evil Requiem graces (pun intended) us with its presence, we can check out two revived classics that are both available right now on the DRM-free, PC platform, GOG, as part of its ‘Preservation Program’.

What is the GOG Preservation Program?
“The GOG Preservation Program ensures classic games remain playable on modern systems, even after their developers stopped supporting them. By maintaining these iconic titles, GOG helps you protect and relive the memories that shaped you, DRM-free and with dedicated tech support.”

So what are the two Resident Evil games that have joined the ‘GOG Preservation Program’, I hear you ask? They are Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil Zero.
Interestingly, there have been rumours that both the original Resident Evil (again) and Resident Evil Zero will be getting modern remakes.
Rumours also claim that Resident Evil Code: Veronica will get the remake treatment, but at the time of writing, those rumours have not been confirmed by Capcom, so they should all be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
Capcom has been on a roll lately, especially with its remakes since Resident Evil 2 (2019), followed by Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that it has other remakes under consideration. After all, it’s like printing money for the famed Japanese studio.

Of course, if/when Capcom announces new Resident Evil remakes, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
