For the last two decades, the Call of Duty series has been the dominant brand of the first-person genre in the video game industry. However, there was once another.

The Battlefield series from Electronic Arts was released during the same year as Activision’s Call of Duty in 2002 and for years they both went toe-to-toe to be the gamer's military FPS franchise of choice. Unfortunately, at least for Battlefield fans, the quality of the series dwindled and to be fair, the same could be said about Call of Duty. Sadly, where the player numbers for Battlefield dwindled over the years, the Call of Duty player base remained strong.

The Battlefield series from DICE has offered some best memories for its fans whether it's playing the likes of Battlefield: 1942, Battlefield 2 or Battlefield 3. However, for many fans of the series, Battlefield hit its peak with the two ‘Bad Company’ entries that were released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. That being said, the topic of today’s discussion is all about Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and a beautiful 4K remaster resulting in this cult classic looking and playing better than ever.

The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 remaster in question is a mod called ‘Heart of Darkness’, showcased in a gameplay video with “ultra-high graphics” uploaded to the YouTube channel MAXSIMUS. This stunning project runs in 4K resolution and hits 60 frames per second.

Watching the magnificent gameplay footage not only makes me wish that the Battlefield: Bad Company series would get an official remaster from EA and DICE, but also the third numbered entry in the series gets the release that it deserves. Personally, after the woeful launch that was Battlefield 2042, I could think of no better way to get back into the good graces of the fans.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. What’s more, it’s also backwards compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X for its single-player campaign. Sadly, its multiplayer servers were killed a while ago.
