As soon as the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition pre-orders went live on the online Nintendo Store, the console was instantly sold out and is now in the hands of resellers listing the item for as much as $1,200 in an attempt to play on the desperation of passionate Zelda fans.
Yesterday, on September 8, Nintendo hosted a special 40th anniversary Direct for The Legend of Zelda, and the main highlight of the event was finally getting to see the stunning first gameplay for the remake of one of the greatest video games of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
However, following the gameplay reveal of the Ocarina of Time remake, Nintendo officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console, and to say itās a stunning item would be an understatement.
Scalpers are already reselling the Zelda Switch 2 for huge prices
Naturally, fans were eager to get their pre-orders in for the limited edition console, and less than 24 hours later, those pre-orders went live on the Nintendo Store.
Unfortunately, as quickly as pre-orders became available, the console was instantly out of stock and is now listed on third-party selling websites for as much as $1,200 in the US and Ā£800 in the UK. That being said, itās entirely possible that prices could increase or decrease in the coming days and hours.
Advert
In the United States, the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console has an RRP of $519.99 and Ā£434.99 in the UK. Thatās an increase of 131% and 84%, respectively.
Resellers have been an issue for many years, with some using sophisticated software to purchase items within seconds to sell on for egregious prices.
Retailers have attempted to tackle the issue, but as proven with the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console, itās still a major issue. Itās especially disappointing for loyal fans of the series who simply want to own this console with no intention of selling it on.
Itās entirely likely that other retailers will list pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console at the regular RRP, but thereās still a strong chance that stock will instantly be depleted and history will repeat itself.

Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition release date and box contents
The limited edition Nintendo Switch 2 console is set to release a week before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, on October 29, 2026. As for whatās included in the box, disappointingly, it does not include a copy of the remake.
I guess the loophole for this is that despite being revealed alongside the gameplay of the Ocarina of Time remake, it doesn't actually say āOcarina of Timeā on the box. The Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console includes:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- 256 GB total system storage
- Joy-Con 2 (L)
- Joy-Con 2 (R)
- Joy-Con 2 strap x2
- Nintendo Switch 2 dock
- Joy-Con 2 grip
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter
- Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable
- Nintendo Switch 2 Important Information leaflet
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will be exclusively released for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
