This Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 4K remaster looks so good that it could pass as an entirely new game.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is not only considered to be the best game in the ever-popular Nintendo series, but it’s also widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time, as indicated by its near-perfect 99 score on Metacritic.

For years, fans of the Zelda series have been calling for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. After all, as great as this game is, it was originally released 27 years ago in 1998 on the Nintendo 64. So, if there’s one game in this series that deserves a remake, it’s this one.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no sign of Nintendo giving us the Ocarina of Time remake we crave, and the best we’ve had so far is the 2011 remake/remaster, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D on the Nintendo 3DS.

Thankfully, fans have taken matters into their own hands, and speaking of the 3DS version of a game, this 4K fan-made remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a thing of beauty.

As explained by the YouTube channel RetroRenew, the creator of the mod, Henriko Magnifico, has recreated each texture by hand using Photoshop, as well as implementing AI for an extra polish.

Sadly, with this being an emulation, it’s only available on PC, and you will need the emulated version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D to take us this impressive 4K texture pack.

That being said, if you do have all the ingredients to play this mod, this might just be the definitive version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That’s, unless Nintendo one day decides to give us an official remake on the Switch 2, but I won't be holding my breath.

The original N64 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is available to play right now with an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
