This week, Nintendo revealed a brand new The Legend of Zelda prequel but it seems that not everyone is happy about it.

Before we get into the new game from The Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo finally announced the Switch 2 release date as well as its price which includes a bundle with Mario Kart World.

It was also a great time for fans of The Legend of Zelda because not only are we getting upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2 but also a remaster (of sorts) for The Wind Waker as well as the aforementioned prequel.

The prequel in question is Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, the follow-up to the fantastic Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However; it is considered to be non-canon.

“Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is coming this Winter for Nintendo Switch 2,” reads a tweet from the fan Twitter account, Zelda Universe. “It takes place before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”

“They also said that about Age of Calamity, so let's see how that plays out,” replied BarnTeh.

“Which is still true even if it ended up being a different timeline,” said LinkMountaineer.

“Yeah, not going to be fooled on that one again,” Flare0Knight exclaimed.

“I’ll play it anyway. Age of Calamity was a fun game,” said JsMaster11.

I guess we'll soon find out how closely Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment follows The Legend of Zelda timeline but at least the game should be a blast, regardless.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 this winter. The Nintendo Switch 2 arrives on 5 June 2025.
