Select games are set to receive paid upgrades for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

During the Direct event dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s been confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will get new remastered upgrades exclusive to the new console. So, two already beautiful games on the previous hardware will soon look and play better than ever on the new system.

Check out The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer below!

In our review of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we said it "effortlessly dances between the epic and the ridiculous - and every single moment in this vast, gorgeous playground will be completely unique to each player".

Both of The Legend of Zelda games will support a 4K resolution docked (1080p handheld) as well as an improved framerate, Joy-Con rumble, voice control via the free Nintendo mobile app and more.

Additionally, there will also be a new ‘Zelda Notes’ feature that will help direct you to nearby shrines as well as other items in the environment such as Korok seeds using the Nintendo Switch mobile app once more.

However, rather than being automatically or manually upgraded via an update with an internet connection, existing owners of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will have to purchase an upgrade pack.

Furthermore, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime Beyond, Super Mario Party Jamboree and Pokémon Legends: Z-A will also be upgraded. The upgrades are compatible with digital and physical games.

No doubt Nintendo will announce even more upgraded games leading up to the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 which launches on 5 June 2025.

We’ll let you know as soon as Nintendo drops further information on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well as additional upgraded games.
