Red Dead Redemption 2 New-Gen Port Delay Divides Players

Could it happen this year?

With Red Dead Redemption 2 being regarded as one of the best video games of all time, it is no surprise that fans are eager to play it in any way possible.

However, despite multiple rumours that the hit Rockstar title would be receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 and cross-platform new-gen port, it seems as though all of the excitement was for nought.

Thanks to Rockstar insiders such as NateTheHate2, the rumours of the possible Red Dead Redemption 2 port felt as though they had some truth behind them, especially after this interaction just a few weeks ago.

“Are you absolutely certain with full confidence that RDR2 Switch 2/Gen 9 updates exist?” user videotechuk_ asked the insider.

“Realistically we have October and November, after that it’s likely full steam ahead on marketing for GTA VI.”

To which NateTheHate2 replied, “Yes, they exist. I have no update on the timing for release.”

However, with October well underway and November being just around the corner, time is running out for this rumoured port as there is no doubt that 2026 will be dedicated to all things Grand Theft Auto VI for Rockstar.

That is why videotechuk_ recently took to social media to share their concerns.

“I’m starting to think it’s joeover for Red Dead Redemption 2’s Switch 2/current gen ports,” they posted.

“I feel like if the ports were coming before October, we would’ve heard by now… maybe I’m being too pessimistic though.”

If this does come to fruition, it marks the first time that the hit 2018 title arrives on the Nintendo Switch, albeit the Nintendo Switch 2, so it would definitely open a whole new way to play the Rockstar title.

Fans are still feeling hopeful

That being said, it seems as though fellow fans are still holding out hope for an announcement before the end of the year.

“Imo it can be November if there’s no GTA VI news this year,” user GameRoll suggested.

“They 100% do exist man,” one interviewer claimed. “‘Cause I have spoken to devs who worked on them but their release is anyone’s guess.”

With some even believing that the Red Dead Redemption 2 Nintendo Switch 2 port could be shadowdropped at December’s The Game Awards, it remains to be seen if this highly requested title will actually be released in 2025.

If not, it seems as though these industry insiders have a lot to answer for.
