It's hard to believe we're already approaching Gen 10 of Pokémon, but with it being 30 years since we first booted up Red and Blue, times have changed a lot. The original 151 Pocket Monsters are just a distant memory, but as we look ahead at the agonising decision of whether we'll play as Browt, Pombon, or Gecqua, more details about Pokémon Winds and Waves are coming out of the woodwork.
Following in the footsteps of Pokémon Pokopia, Pokéfans are eagerly anticipating the next mainline entry in the monster-catching series. If you can't wait until 2027 to find out what's going on with the next era of Pokémon, one supposedly reliable leaker has a potential plot leak. The problem is, many of you claim you've heard it all before.
NEW Pokémon Winds & Waves story and prequel anime leak:
— Centro LEAKS (@CentroLeaks) June 18, 2026
- The story of Pokémon Winds&Waves is related to time travel
- There will be a prequel anime to the game (similar to Pokémon Twilight Wings) which will tell the backstory of the Professor and the Champion.

Although the jury is out on Centro Leaks' reliability, it's true that the popular Pokémon insider has been right on things like Winds and Waves' Southeast Asian-inspired region, details of Legends Z-A's returning monsters, and has faced several Nintendo takedowns. Over on Centro Leaks, the OP claimed that Winds and Waves' plot will again involve time travel, focusing on a 14-year-old Professor and a 20-year-old Champion.
If you're confused about what all that means, a prequel anime will supposedly set the scene, telling their respective stories in a tale similar to how Pokémon: Twilight Wings fleshed out Sword and Shield.
Advert
The anime will apparently be set 30 years before the events of Winds and Waves, but as the series ends, the Professor will be sent back in time. This explains how he ends up being older than the Champion in the main game, giving us the typical Professor Oak dynamic.
With time travel again tipped to be at the core of the Pokéverse, those demanding something different from Game Freak are already shaking their fists in rage. Given all those time travel shenanigans with Scarlet and Violet's Professors Turo and Sada, it all feels a little familiar for critics

Aside from the fact that a pair of costumed Pikachu are imaginatively called Mr Windychu and Mrs Wavychu, and a reveal of the Gen 10 starters, official Winds and Waves details are thin on the ground. Then again, with the typical release window for Pokémon games being in September, we could still have 15 months of waiting on our hands.
Even though we're taking Centro Leaks' scoop with a pinch of salt, those in the replies were angrier than Jigglypuff when you nod off during one of its songs.
One disgruntled gamer wrote: "Can we travel back in time to where Game Freak wasn’t shovelling sh*t."
Another added: "Oh wow, time travel, how original, that's only the 3rd game now to have this plot right?
“Let me guess, an evil team that's misunderstood, and then an actual evil team disguised as the heroes, right? Guys, this is just Sun and Moon 3 lmao."
A third raged: "Holy f**k, I am so tired of lame ass time travel and alternate timelines because Pokémon doesn’t know how to f**king write anymore. So they use time travel as a crutch."
It would be unfair to say Game Freak is simply copying Scarlet and Violet, because if you remember, even Professor Oak was meddling with the timelines in Pokémon forever.
