The last few modern Pokémon games just haven’t hit the same as the classics, so no wonder fans are frothing at the mouth for remakes.
As long as they’re done faithfully and don’t change too much, Pokémon remakes are usually acceptable. The gold standard in our opinion, is Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver but the recently re-released Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are great too.
This next ‘remake’ is truly remarkable though, and it’s even better when you learn that it was made by just one person.
Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 owners will be more than familiar with Pokémon Pokopia by now. Even if you’re only a casual observer of the series, it’s been pretty hard to miss.
Pokopia is a remarkable game and players have done some pretty creative stuff with it, as there’s really no limit on what you can create and how you want to create it.

One of the most impressive creations we’ve seen so far is a near 1:1 recreation of the Gen 1 Pokémon map by Reddit user starguy13.
“Kanto is nearly finished,” said starguy13 in their post, along with several images of the remade map made entirely within the Pallet Town area of Pokopia.
Pallet Town is the largest area in the game and it’s basically an open sandbox to do whatever you want with. There are no buildings to deconstruct or quests to bloat your exploration; you can build to your heart’s content, provided you’ve got all the resources and recipes.
Starguy13 has successfully recreated all of the towns you can find in Pokémon Red And Blue/Pokémon FireRed And LeafGreen.
The only thing missing are some of the routes connecting them but that’s only due to a lack of space. Pallet Town is massive but it does have its restrictions.
It’s still an impressive feat though, and they even went the extra mile and recreated Professor Oak’s lab, complete with an interior.
Fans in the comment section were thoroughly impressed, with one saying: “Amazing! These are probably the most 1:1 recreations of the originals I’ve seen!”
"These are so cute and well done!” said another. “I immediately recognised each one - I hope Mewtwo is living in Cerulean Cave. The longer I look the more details I find. I love how you put golden nuggets on the nugget bridge.”
Kanto has arguably never looked better and we’re already keen to see some of the other OG Pokémon regions recreated.
The Pokémon Company clearly has no plans to remake any games itself, but we can probably expect a few more re-releases of the previous remakes going forward. Hopefully Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are next.
