On the face of it, Pokémon Pokopia should be an absolutely enormous release. Revealed at the most recent Nintendo Direct, the game is a cosy life simulator where players take on the role of a Ditto who has transformed to look like a human.
Around the game world, you'll come across Pokémon who you can learn moves from to make life on your little slice of heaven a little more cultivated. Whether it's using Bulbasaur’s Leafage to add greenery to the area or Squirtle’s Water Gun to water some of your plants, it's a really clever little twist that incorporates recognisable Pokémon features into the popular genre fairly seamlessly.
That said, the community has some major gripes with the game that they wanted to get out and there's plenty of disagreement about whether the game is going to be fun when it does release.
Over on Reddit, one user shared their concerns about the limited footage we've seen so far. This includes no facial animations on the Pokémon we see, issues with the chibi art style of the player character when compared to the realistic style of the 'mons themselves and the animations for placing items and crafting.

The responses were decidedly mixed, with some agreeing with OP, whilst other were a little more cautiously optimistic. "I find it more hilarious that Nintendo is releasing their own version that is more of a rip off of Palworld then Palworld was ever of Nintendo's Pokémon. Goes to show big corps would rather absolutely destroy competition through litigation rather then actually try to compete," one said.
Another added, "It looks so generic and bland I wouldn't be surprised if they reused assets.. If it was more like an adventure/platformer game with a customisable island it could be cool but this just feels like a mobile game."
Others pushed back, saying "Nah, I think it’s kind of cool. Looks to me like a make-your-own-region kind of thing. The last shot looks like a route akin to generations one to five. I think that’s why they went faith a more blocky artistic style. Gens one to five operated on a square by square layout for the games. This looks to be very similar, just 3D. I’m quite excited, but this is only the first trailer."
Pokémon Pokopia doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, outside of the very broad window of 2026.

With plenty of time to go between now and then, we'll see if Nintendo is able to assuage building fan concern around the quality of the final product.
