Pokémon Day is almost here, my friends.
As always, Pokémon Day falls on 27 February, marking the anniversary of the launch of Pokémon Red & Green.
It’s typically a bountiful day, bringing with it a Pokémon Presents full of new announcements, and we’re all expecting this year’s edition to be extra special.
As for why, well, this year’s Pokémon Day marks the 40th anniversary of the franchise.
Advert
It’s hard to believe but it has indeed been 40 years since Red and Green first landed all the way back in 1996.
Pokémon Pokopia is, of course, on the way this year, but that game has already widely been shown off leading many to wonder what else might be revealed.

It’s been a while since that Pokémon Champions announcement; that’s due an update.

Gen 10 is also on the way at some point, with leaks claiming that the game is titled Wind and Waves.
The latest theory, however, suggests that fan-favourite Pokémon Mystery Dungeon may be making a comeback - and it all links back to Nintendo Switch Online.
NSO’s Latest Batch of Icons May Be Hinting at a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Return
Yes, yet another batch of Nintendo Switch Online icons have been made available, inspired by Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team.
There are 10 profile icons on offer. You can now grab Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip.
As always, they cost 10 Platinum Points each, although Platinum Points is a free currency so they technically won’t cost you anything at all.
Nintendo Switch users can secure Platinum Points via completing tasks via My Nintendo. Filling in questionnaires or logging on to your account weekly, for example, nets points.
As such, you should always have enough to grab the latest NSO icons that appeal to you.
There’s no word on how long this latest Pokémon selection will be available for, but NSO icons tend to rotate every week so if there are any that interest you, you should probably move sooner rather than later.
There is an extra caveat to this selection of icons; you’ll need to play Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team via Nintendo Switch Online in order to make them available for ‘purchase’.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team requires the + Expansion Pack version of NSO as a Game Boy Advance title.
This could mean nothing, but given that a Pokémon Presents sits in the near future, you can understand why Pokémon fans are wondering if this means a Mystery Dungeon return of some variety is imminent.
“GET THE CLOWN OUTFITS AGAIN EVERYBODY IT'S TIME TO PRAY FOR NEW PMD,” wrote Twitter/X user Ultimate_Kirb.
User incivanov added, “Does this mean we’re getting a new Mystery Dungeon game?”
I’m sure plenty of people are hoping that’s the case.
I suppose we’ll find out on 27 February. We’ll be here to bring you all of that days’ breaking announcements.
