Pokémon Gen 10 leaked starters sound like the best we've had in years

Are Pokémon games only as good as their starter 'mon?

The next Pokémon game may be Pokémon Legends: Z-A but fans are already looking towards the future, and it’s bright.

I’m very excited for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, especially since it’ll be the first new Pokémon game on the Nintendo Switch 2, so I’m expecting big things from the performance, especially after Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Aside from that, it also just looks like a solid entry in the series, with some interesting mechanics and of course the return of Mega Evolutions.

There’s one glaring flaw with it though, the starter Pokémon suck; sorry if that hurts your feelings, but variety is the spice of life and Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s starter line-up doesn’t have it.

Fortunately, it sounds like the next Pokémon game, Gen 10, will deliver a solid starter line-up if the leaks/rumours are to be believed.

Rumour has it that the Gen 10 Pokémon game will be called Pokémon Tides and Gales and will feature a setting that’ll have players hopping between islands on their quest to catch-’em-all.

The starter Pokémon will apparently feature a fire-type goat, a water-type octopus and a grass-type snail.

Take it with a pinch of salt, of course, but if there’s any credibility to the rumour, it doesn’t sound half-bad, and don’t forget they sometimes get a secondary type when they evolve so this could get even more interesting.

Also mentioned in the leaks is the return of another starter Pokémon, Charmander, who’ll apparently appear with a regional ground-type variant. It always amazes me how easily The Pokémon Company can slip Charmander/Charizard into all of its Pokémon titles.

As said before, you need to take this with some salt as it’s still early-days, but with Pokémon Legends: Z-A releasing later this year it seems pretty likely that work on the next game will have already begun.
