Today is finally the day that a brand-new Pokémon game is set to release but despite that, talk has already turned to the future of the franchise.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to launch today, 16 October, allowing fans to celebrate more of the ninth generation of Pokémon as well as the second entry in the Pokémon Legends sub-series, following 2022’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
It is an exciting time, especially as Pokémon Legends: Z-A has already received rave reviews by critics.
Our very own Sam Cawley called it “mega in more ways than one” in his review.

“When all is said and done, I think Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a fantastic Pokémon game,” he wrote.
“The new battle mechanics are a stellar addition to the formula and it was great to see Mega Evolutions return in such bombastic fashion.
It feels like the continuation Pokémon X&Y needed but never got, as it’s always felt like those games never truly got the love, respect and time they deserved.”
However, despite Pokémon Legends: Z-A being released today, fans are already looking ahead to the future, more specifically, Pokémon’s 10th generation.

Over the past few months, rumours have been circulating on the first entry in the 10th generation: Pokémon Wind and Wave.
Not much is known yet, of course, but a recent leak courtesy of Centro LEAKS on Twitter has some interesting information to share about the next entry in the franchise.
“We have some new information about Pokémon Wind and Wave that wasn't part of the Teraleak documents released this week,” they shared in a recent post.
The first is that a rumoured feature that allowed players to ride all Pokémon has been “scaled down significantly.”

Secondly, the suspected character bios and story of Wind and Wave as a whole has been “changed a lot”.
Last but not least, the game will reportedly feature turn-based combat but like Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
“If you enjoy the PLZA battle system and want it to return in Gen 10, make sure to let @Pokemon know,” the Tweet continued.
Of course, it is worth taking this information with a pinch of salt as it has not been officially confirmed but with many fans enjoying Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s turn-based combat approach, it would be a shame to see it go.

“PLZA battle system, but where you can shift the camera to your Pokémon at will, to control the Pokémon directly and “aim” moves, would be peak for wild battles,” user James Perrott replied.
“But turn-based has to stay forever for trainer and PvP battles.”
For now, Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches today for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
