You can download and keep these 15 PlayStation games for free, and they’ll be yours to keep forever.
In this day and age, especially, it’s always important to save money whenever we can during the never-ending cost-of-living crisis. It’s always good to distract our minds from worldly woes, and video games offer a fun way of escapism. But sometimes, we don’t always have the cash to splash.
For this article specifically, I’ll share some of the best games that you can play for free right now on PlayStation, and if you can avoid microtransactions, they won't cost you a penny. I've been through and checked every single one of these games myself, so they come with our seal of approval - no cash grabs or low-effort games here.
This will be a mix of free-to-play titles, demos and genres. I’ll also avoid the obvious Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Rocket League and Apex Legends.

3 Free PlayStation First-Person Shooters We Love
First up, I want to delve into the world of first-person shooters.
If you loved Battlefield, you have to check out Battlefield REDSEC. Drop into Fort Lyndon for a Battle Royale only Battlefield can deliver. Survive and advance in the all-new cutthroat Gauntlet elimination mode, then redraw the lines of battle in Fort Lyndon with Portal. I had a lot of fun here!
Next up, Destiny 2. It's a classic for a reason, and with 4.2 stars on the PlayStation Store, a lot of you agree with me. Explore the mysteries of the solar system with Destiny 2’s cinematic story, challenging co-op missions, and a variety of PvP modes. best of all, you can bring your friends along for the ride. Weekend sorted.
One that might've skipped your radar. I enjoyed Delta Force - it's a return to a great series. This free-to-play modern team-based tactical shooter has three distinct gameplay modes: large-scale PvP warfare, intense extraction shooter action, and a remake of the legendary Black Hawk Down campaign. Something for everyone!
3 Free PlayStation RPGS You Can't Miss
It wouldn't be a PlayStation round-up if I didn't mention the amazing roster of RPGs available on the console.
Where Winds Meet is a favourite of mine. It's an open-world action-adventure RPG set in ancient China in the tenth century. Players will assume the role of a young sword master as they embark on a journey to uncover the mysteries of their own identity.
Infinity Nikki is another popular one you might've missed. You might think it's a typical dress up adventure game. No. This cosy open-world adventure lets you unravel hidden mysteries by dresing up, and it's packed with vast landscapes, mystical puzzles and unexpected platforming challenges. It's genuinely really good.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is a demo, but I love the Yakuza games, so it's well worth checking this remake out. Play as ex-yakuza Kazuma Kiryu as he fights to protect those he loves. Dark Ties is an all-new story too.
Best Free Horror Games on PlayStation
We've called Reanimal one of the most anticipated horror games of 2026, for good reason. For a limited time, you can try out the exclusive demo and venture into the abandoned Mill in search of one of your missing friends, and learn quickly that co-operation is the only means of survival.”
Another demo, but still a good time. Check out Alisa, a fantastical world somewhat reminiscent of the 1920s. Now trapped in a world upside down, Alisa must find a way to escape - all the while being haunted by the mansion's strange, mechanised doll-like inhabitants.
Rounding off the horror games, I have to mention Crow Country. Again, it's only a demo, but the art style is so gorgeous, I was begging for more after it ended. Theere's a good few hours of content in the demo, so be sure to check it out.
Best Free Sport Games on PlayStation
Last, but certainly not least, sports games. Now, if there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I love WWE. But here's a few other games you should check out.
First up is EA's Skate. I loved this when I played the early access and the OG. And it's got online multiplayer too, so grab your friends.
Here's one for the family - My First Gran Turismo. Whether you’re a parent introducing your family to racing or a longtime fan revisiting the series, My First Gran Turismo captures the essence of those unforgettable first laps in a streamlined, approachable experience crafted especially for new players. Just don't introduce your kids to an iRacing account, your bank account will not thank you.
Last, but certainly not least. EA Sports FC 26 Showcase. This game offers a taste of what’s new in The World’s Game, with a huge rotating selection of content, features, and modes for players to experience, including Kick-Off, Clubs Live Events, and more.
So, there you have it, those are 15 PlayStation games that you can download and play for free today. Hopefully, at least one of the above tickles your fancy!
