Nintendo Switch 2 launch plan is music to our ears

A Nintendo Switch 2 update from president Shuntaro Furukawa should be music to the ears of gamers.

It seems that especially in this day and age, scalpers are the bane of supply and demand. Whether it’s a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S or a Nintendo Switch at launch, as well as highly-desired collectable items, scalpers gobble up all the stock, preventing real fans from acquiring the goods.

Moreover, not only does it make it damn-near impossible to make a purchase which could go on for months on end, but scalper stock is then listed on third-party reselling websites for egregious prices. What’s worse is that desperate consumers will pay greedy scalpers for the goods, feeding the monsters that will never die otherwise.

That being said, we’ve heard time and time before from manufacturers that measures will be implemented to prevent scalpers from claiming all the stock from genuine customers. This is often a failed promise with the software used by scalpers growing more sophisticated by the day.

However, Shuntaro Furukawa has claimed that anti-scalper measures will be implemented when it comes to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.

As reported by VGC via Nikkei, Furukawa said: “We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like). We are making preparations.”

As I eluded to earlier, we’ve heard similar promises before and scalpers still claim all the stock, at least for a while.

Even if Nintendo implements the most successful anti-scalper measures yet, it might be safe to assume that Switch 2 stock will not be plentiful for the first few days of launch, if not weeks.

The best thing we can do is try our best to pre-order the console and if that fails, we need to be patient. After all, if we collectively stopped giving greedy scalpers our money, eventually they would lose the incentive to do what they do.

Nintendo will be hosting an online Direct event on 2 April 2025, where hopefully we’ll learn the release date, price and launch titles for the Switch 2.
