The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally getting on its most-requested features, and I’m personally looking forward to it.
I’m glad I own a Nintendo Switch 2 but, at the time of writing, it doesn’t feel like a worthwhile console just yet. Not only is it missing quite a few exclusives worth the upgrade from the Nintendo Switch, it’s also missing a variety of features that really should be staples at this point.
One of those features is something other consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have been doing for years, basic media apps.
YouTube is still an unsupported app on the Nintendo Switch 2, but a new leak from YouTube itself has confirmed it’s finally on the way.

Towards the end of January YouTube on the Nintendo Switch 2 was just a rumour, but a since-deleted tweet from YouTube’s X account confirmed it’ll be coming in a future console update.
Obviously the tweet was posted prematurely prior to the official announcement, though I’m wondering why we need so much secrecy for something that’s been on modern consoles for ages now…?

It’s not going to sell more consoles but it’ll at least make it easier to turn off a game and watch something online without having to switch to a different system.

Part of me even hopes it’ll take advantage of the Switch 2 hardware, allowing the joycons to either function as a TV remote with the gyro-controls or as a mouse with their mouse-grip mode.
Even if it doesn’t include any of that, I’m just happy it’s going to be there.
Currently there’s no exact release date for YouTube on the Nintendo Switch 2 just yet but leaks suggest it'll be sometime in February.
At the very most I can see the app being released for the console in the next few months if not sooner.
This has also spurred on the fans who are hoping more and more video content apps make their way to the system.
The big ones are Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Disney+ of course but we’re also hoping for other services like Crunchyroll or even Spotify.
There’s a lot of potential here and just because the Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t as widespread as the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles doesn’t mean it needs to be sidelined when it comes to more functionality.
