Nintendo Switch Leak Teases Major Addition Gamers Have Been Waiting For

This would be a prime announcement!

A Nintendo Switch 2 leak suggests that we might finally be getting a long-awaited release that we’ve been waiting for.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 was released last year, it revised its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. As long as you coughed up the cash for the ‘+ Expansion Pack’ tier, you would get the addition of GameCube games to your library.

The addition of GameCube games with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier adds to the already existing Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 libraries.

In February 2023, Metroid Prime Remastered was released on the Nintendo Switch and was well-received by critics and fans alike. In our review of Metroid Prime Remastered, GAMINGbible alumni Ewan Moore scored it a 10/10.

Following the positive reception of Metroid Prime Remastered, no doubt, fans were hoping that the trilogy, which was originally released on the Wii, would eventually be complete on the Nintendo Switch console. Sadly, that hope has not come to fruition.

Nintendo Switch Online Is Getting Two Beloved Additions

However, as brought to our attention by Reddit user CarbVan, it looks like we may get the next best thing, after giant US supermarket retailer, Walmart, seemingly leaked that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Oh, and by the looks of it, Pikmin 2 will also be included soon.

If this leak is true, it means that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 will be joining other GameCube titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Pokémon Colosseum, Soulcalibur II and more.

While we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt, this Walmart leak looks just about as genuine as it gets. The natural assumption would be that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption could also come to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library at some point.

Not Every NSO Subscriber Can Play Metroid Prime 2

That being said, as great as it is getting Metroid Prime 2: Echoes on the Nintendo Switch, this emulation will be exclusive to the Switch 2.

Locked behind the NSO + Expansion tier, even if you pay for this tier, GameCube games are only playable on the Nintendo Switch 2, which kind of devalues the service for those who play on the last-gen machine, in my opinion.

I would love to play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on the go via my last-gen Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch console, but sadly, that’s not possible, and as much as I adore that game, it doesn't warrant me saving up to buy the latest machine just to play it.

For that reason, I wish that Nintendo would release a new standalone HD version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and the same goes for the Metroid Prime trilogy, but I won’t be holding my breath.

Following this Walmart leak, I think it would be safe to assume that Nintendo will be making an official announcement on its social media channels in the coming days.
