Nintendo is once again giving away a collection of freebies, this time to celebrate the launch of the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
While I found myself unexpectedly disappointed while reviewing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond I’d still recommend you pick up a copy. Despite my issues with the game everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and if you find that you love it and believe it was worth the near decade long wait, then I couldn’t be more happy for you.
Perhaps as time goes on my opinion will change but for now I’m not in a rush to replay it.
Shifting to a more positive note though, Nintendo fans who are excited to finally get their hands on the latest first-party addition shouldn’t miss these new freebies.

I’m sure we’re all familiar with Nintendo Switch Online icons as at the time of writing they’re the only way to jazz up your account for other players to see.

As usual they current offering is linked to the latest releases on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, which in this case is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Tracks from the game have also been added to Nintendo Music too.
Users will find a selection of icons depicting Samus in her upgraded suit, the game’s villain Sylux, the new motorcycle Vi.O.La and a selection of other characters. One icon depicts one of my biggest gripes with the game, MacKenzie, so it’s safe to say I won’t be redeeming that one…

Pairing with these icons are a selection of backgrounds based on some of the locations found in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Remember that these aren’t interchangeable though, they’ll only work with the Metroid icons.
The icons will set you back 10 Platinum Points each whereas the backgrounds only cost five. These are more than affordable as Nintendo Switch / Nintendo Switch 2 owners will have probably amassed a hoard of Platinum Points, as they’re earned in the background while you play games.
You’ve got plenty of time to grab the ones you want too as they’ll be ushered out on 3 January, giving you a full month to make your selection or just grab them all.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is out now for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with the latter having added features like the option to use the joy-cons as mouse cursors. It’s a game-changer and makes the free-aiming so much smoother.
