Hogwarts Legacy studio has just been acquired by a major publisher

Where could this adventure take fans next?

That’s right, Hogwarts Legacy fans: a big publisher has purchased the studio that worked on the beloved Harry Potter title.

Shiver Entertainment has been acquired by Nintendo, in a surprise move that few within the games community anticipated.

In truth though, such a decision makes sense; Shiver Entertainment worked on the Switch port for Hogwarts Legacy, and as such, Nintendo likely wants it to work on Switch 2 ports in the future.

Hopefully, that lack of excitement fans have reported feeling will be replaced with optimism following this news.

The announcement reads, “By welcoming Shiver’s experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for porting and developing software titles.”

“Going forward, even after it becomes a part of the Nintendo group, Shiver’s focus will remain the same, continuing commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch.”

It’s the “multiple platforms” bit that has fans most curious.

Speculation is now rife that there could be PC ports on the horizon for some Nintendo games; if true, this would be massive news.

But would it be surprising? After all, Xbox is full steam ahead with plans to launch The Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation, thus further cementing its commitment to removing first-party titles.

Of course, Nintendo could simply not want to refer to the Switch 2 due to the way fans immediately get overhyped about it.

We know the new console is on the way after Nintendo, true to form, announced the Switch 2 in the most casual way. However, the exact date for launch is unknown.

Consequently, minimising all mentions of the new hardware isn’t such an unusual move.

Regardless of what the plans are now this acquisition is confirmed and underway, for the rarest moment, fans agree that it can only spell great things for Nintendo and Shiver Entertainment.
