Animal Crossing players may have been fishing wrong for years, so now the time to correct your technique.

Everyone knows that in order to make a good game it has to have a fishing minigame, and arguably no game knows that like Animal Crossing as the fishing is one of the few things that’s been consistently good across all of its games.

You can spend hours and hours dredging up the weird and wonderful fish that lurk beneath the waters, either donating them afterwards to Blather’s museum or selling him for some easy bells.

That said some players might be approaching this relaxing and cosy minigame all wrong, so it’s time for a refresh.

Recently I learnt from several Animal Crossing players that for the longest time they’ve believed you need to mash the A button when a fish bites your line to reel them in. That’s not true nor has it ever been true, all you need is one A button press.

That said, so many players have gaslit themselves into believing you need to really mash your controller in order to successfully catch a fish, especially the more aggressive ones like sharks.

It’s like old-school Pokémon when we were all convinced mashing the buttons while a ‘mon is inside the Pokéball would increase the chances of it being successfully captured. It’s not true but you could never tell us otherwise.

After searching around online there are loads of players who’ve believed this to be the case, so I’m here to assure you that you don’t need to break your controller buttons, one push it enough…

Animal Crossing fishing is supposed to be a relaxing experience, when you’re not searching for one specific fish to add to your collection, so take your time and enjoy it rather than make it harder than it needs to be.
