Animal Crossing: New Horizons Promotional Crossover Teased By IKEA

This would be very The Sims-esque of Nintendo

Animal Crossing fans think another IKEA x Animal Crossing: New Horizons collab is in the works, because of a recent social media post from one of IKEA’s official social media pages.

Update 3.0 for Animal Crossing: New Horizons dropped less than two weeks ago for the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2, and, unsurprisingly, fans absolutely love it.

However, if you’ve somehow already bombed your way through all of the new stuff that was introduced in the 3.0 update, then don’t worry, because fans are convinced that some new content for the game is inbound.

Why? Because IKEA is Animal Crossing posting again. Except, this time, they’ve put a lot of extra effort into their latest social media post, which has ignited speculation that an official Animal Crossing: New Horizons x IKEA collab may drop in the near future.

As originally spotted by Polygon, the official IKEA France TikTok account recently posted this impressively edited Animal Crossing video, featuring legit IKEA furniture. Also, I’m not sure if that’s an official piece of music from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons soundtrack, but it really, really sounds like it is.

This isn’t the first time (or even the fifth) time that IKEA has been caught posting about Animal Crossing, however. The Swedish furniture company has a bit of a habit of referencing the Nintendo games in its promo materials.

Most famously, just after Animal Crossing: New Horizons was first released, IKEA Taiwan remade their entire catalogue using images from the game.

So, what could this all mean? Might we be getting some IKEA-branded DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Perhaps a flatpack bookcase, or even a Blåhaj?

Ok, so, maybe– but I’d suggest that we all temper our expectations.

Nintendo are generally quite picky about official promotional crossovers. I mean, there was that one time where they put a Mercedes-Benz GLA in Mario Kart 8, but that's the exception to the rule.

The simplest explanation is that IKEA’s media-savvy, potentially Gen Z-aged socials team knows that Animal Crossing fans will absolutely eat this up. After all, as I said, they’ve done this several times before.

However… I do think the production values here are a smidge too high. If it isn’t a teaser for an official crossover, the social media team member who put this together deserves a very hefty raise.

We won’t know for sure until Nintendo reciprocates in kind, so keep an eye out for some sort of trailer in the (hopefully) near future.
