Hogwarts Legacy players are still shocked it didn’t receive a GOTY nomination

In the year of our Lord 2024, Hogwarts Legacy fans are still shocked and amazed the game wasn’t nominated for 2023’s Game Of The Year award.

Hogwarts Legacy has seen a bit of a resurgence over the last few months. Despite initially releasing in early 2023 for the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC, gradual ports to last-gen consoles and the Nintendo Switch have kept the playerbase strong.

The Harry Potter game strolled out of 2023 as the best-selling game of the year, but unfortunately wasn’t nominated for any Game Of The Year awards, which at the time was seen as a huge disservice by fans.

We’re in 2024 now, and the game is still going strong thanks to the promise of new content coming to the game later this year, as well as rumours of Hogwarts Legacy 2 in development. It’s not short of new players either, many of whom have accepted their invitation to Hogwarts and been experiencing the Wizarding World for the very first time, like KrispyKingTheProphet.

Krispy made a post sharing their first time with the game, saying they “can’t comprehend the lack of a GOTY nomination,” joining thousands of other fans who felt, and still feel, the same way towards the end of last year. The fan did say that the game shouldn’t have won the prestigious gaming award, and that Baldur’s Gate 3 was definitely more deserving of the title, but it was still odd for Hogwarts Legacy to not get a nomination at the very least.

That being said while fans enjoyed their time with the game, many have opposed the idea it should have been in the running for GOTY, saying there were several 2023 releases that were more deserving, like the aforementioned Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Resident Evil 4 (2023) to name a few.

Depending on the support the game receives in the coming months, there’s every chance Hogwarts Legacy could be nominated for some post-launch update awards towards the end of 2024.
