Hogwarts Legacy players think the next game should let you transfer your previous character across, rather than have to start a brand-new one.

Hogwarts Legacy may have strolled out of 2023 as the best-selling game of the year, but it’s far from finished with new DLC teased for release later this year. Additionally fans are already pitching ideas for Hogwarts Legacy 2, and have a great idea for who the protagonist should be.

At this point Hogwarts Legacy 2 is basically guaranteed, and a sequel has been teased by Warner Bros Games earlier this year. With that in mind players are hoping to see some of the progress made in the first game be transferable to the next one.

A Reddit post said as much, saying a feature should be added that lets us “import our characters,” in a similar sort of way to GTA Online letting you transfer your character from the last-gen version of the game to the new-gen.

It’d make a lot of sense for Hogwarts Legacy too. Harry Potter as a series takes place across several years, each one being a different year of attendance at Hogwarts. In Hogwarts Legacy your character transfers to the school later than the other wizards in Year 5, and with the final year being Year 7 Warner Bros could release two more games for the remaining years of study.

Players agreed, with one saying “A trilogy would be awesome. And I really hope we get to give the main character more backstory in future games.”

Another player said:“It would be really cool if we could keep building on the characters we've created. Imagine 2-3 games down the line and your character becomes a professor, that would be fun.”

Finally one player implied the game could “copy the Mass Effect trilogy” and keep the same character going throughout its adventures.

Hopefully Hogwarts Legacy 2 does have some kind of import mechanic. It’d be a shame if we had to start from scratch with a new character, especially if the majority of features stay the same.
