Halo 2 is now playable in third-person, and it feels totally illegal

Modders have given Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 a completely new perspective, third person, and it’s a little bit cursed.

Modders have given Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 a completely new perspective, third person, and it’s a little bit cursed.

Halo is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best first-person shooter franchises ever made. While the series progressively deteriorated after Bungie left it behind, the first three games, Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST seem to always stand the test of time.

Take a look at the latest Halo Infinite has to offer below

But let me ask you this, what if you take the first-person perspective out of one of the best first-person shooters ever made? The answer is it becomes the best third-person shooter ever made instead.

That’s right if you’re playing on PC you can two mods from NexusMods, both created by Davide Di Fortunato, which change the camera for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 to third-person. You can download the Halo CE one here, and the Halo 2 one here.

Now the camera only changes when you’re holding a weapon, which you’re not doing when you first start the campaigns for both games. Once you eventually pick one up though you’ll see the full effects of the mod.

In a weird way, Halo games lend themselves quite well to third-person, all the vehicle segments shift the camera to third person, and with aim-assist turned on as usual aiming is just as straightforward as it is in the normal game. One benefit is you definitely have more spatial awareness, which is great for when you’re being chased down by an Elite with an energy sword or surrounded by The Flood.

While the modder has only made third-person mods for the first two games, there are other mods out there that’ll change the perspective of the rest of the games, so in theory, you could do an entire playthrough of the Halo series with a cursed camera angle.

The third-person perspective mods can be downloaded from NexusMods now if you’re on PC.
