A Dark Souls speedrun attempt failed miserably for the funniest reason

Dreams were dashed

Speedruns of Dark Souls are for only the most valiant of heart, and even when you come prepared, you might still fail.

Most of the time, failure comes from unsurprising sources.

However, sometimes you mess up because of a truly hilarious and unpredictable moment.

Unfortunately for the Dark Souls player in question, everyone can watch them fail thanks to the beauty of social media.

Seems apt to watch some funny Dark Souls wins and epic fails

During a series of speedrun attempts, Twitch steamer Elajjaz faced many randomised encounters.

So far so normal for a no death randomiser run.

That was, until a rat decided to ruin the streamer’s day and boot them off of a rooftop. Clearly, this little rodent had had enough.

The gamer’s character took a lethal tumble, and with it, their 66th attempt at this speedrun.

If you want to know what that is in hours, Elajjaz was approximately seven hours deep when this rat chose to compound the streamer’s suffering.

Not one to shy away from public humiliation, Elajjaz shared a clip of the moment on Twitter.

Naturally, FromSoftware fans can’t get enough.

In the video, you can see the character making their way onto one of the rooftops of Oolacile Township in Dark Souls: Remastered.

You already know danger is near thanks to the giant rats rampaging below, but it’s a rodent that the streamer fails to spot until it’s too late that executes that deadly push.

As one fan said, “It’s always the unexpected."

Ain’t that the truth here!

To make matters worse, many onlookers believe that this was “the run”, aka the moment when Elajjaz would break his long streak of speedrun failures.

What a heartbreaking turn of events. By which, we mean heartbreakingly hilarious.

Just remember, the next time you attempt to speedrun your way through Dark Souls, just make sure all your bases are covered.

A rat could be waiting for you to turn your back...
