Assassin’s Creed fans are calling Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag the best pirate game ever, and are disappointed Ubisoft didn’t make it a series.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is arguably one of the best Assassin’s Creed games ever made. Following the legendary Edward Kenway, the story takes you on a nautical adventure through the Caribbean, searching for fame, riches and eventually, a way to save the world.

It scored favourably with fans and critics, leading many to believe it deserves a sequel or to become its own spin-off series. Given Assassin’s Creed’s recent trend of large open worlds, it’d be a no-brainer to revisit the pirate theme and let players sail the seas once again.

A Twitter user recently praised the title in a thread, saying: “Reminder that Ubisoft somehow made the best and most immersive pirate game back in 2013 and nobody has been able to top it yet.”

The post was met with several replies from fans, and while most sang the praises of the game's many sea shanties, some took the chance to point and laugh at Ubisoft’s upcoming pirate game, Skull And Bones.

“Not even themselves with their pirate game,” said one user, while another added, “Still can’t believe Ubisoft saw this and thought ‘What if we turned it into a live service online game where you’re not allowed to leave your ship and all combat is cut scenes,' then went on to be stuck in development hell for a decade.”

While it’s unlikely that Edward Kenway will be returning to the series anytime soon, aside from spin-off appearances, fans are holding out hope for a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The remake is rumoured to be in development right now as one of the 11 games Ubisoft currently has planned for the series.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag can be played on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.
