With all the hype around the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, our attention is elsewhere in the franchise. Especially when it comes to the game in the series most deserving of a full on remake.
First thing's first, we would love a remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, as one of the two (the other being AC Rogue) last old-school entries in the Ubisoft series, it will perhaps benefit from a remake more than most.
Thankfully, at least, with a constant flow of Black Flag remake rumours making the social media rounds, especially in recent weeks, I’m having my fingers crossed that it's a case of no smoke without fire. It’s also my favourite game in the series, so there is that.
So, what is the other game in the Assassin’s Creed series that arguably deserves a remake more than Black Flag, I hear you ask? The game in question is 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity.
Will Assassin’s Creed Unity Get a Remake or Remaster?
To address the elephant in the room, despite looking visually stunning, Assassin’s Creed Unity launched in a bit of a buggy mess. It had graphical glitches, game crashes and for me, my data was wiped after putting in loads of hours.

Though I did manage to complete it, eventually. The game also tried to implement an ambitious co-op mode.
In defence of Assassin’s Creed Unity, it also didn't help its reputation that the same glitch screenshots were being shared across social media, with that exact glitch likely only being encountered by a handful of gamers.
However, over time, after a series of patches, I think Assassin’s Creed Unity is viewed a lot more favourably today. It still looks really nice, especially for a game over a decade old, and I believe it has some of the best parkour animations in the entire series. Not to mention, the rat-infested, yet beautiful, late 1700s Paris was a joy to explore.
“Do you guys think a remake or remaster is planned for Assassin’s Creed Unity?” asked Redditor Kizzo02. “I'm posting this after the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate update (they always skip Unity for some reason).
“I doubt it,” replied AssassinsCrypt. “Even if they'll go with a remake, they will surely focus on other games before it - like the Ezio ones.”
“I doubt it. That game is generally considered a failure outside of the AC fanbase, and its reception caused Ubisoft to change the entire course of the franchise,” added another Reddit user.
“I wish they'd just give it a 60 frames-per-second update as they did with Syndicate. Visually, it still looks great,” said Claytalian.
I think it’s far more likely that Assassin’s Creed Unity gets a proper 60fps update on consoles for both the disc and digital platforms for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. But I could be very wrong.
The aforementioned Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has had a 60fps update, along with Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. So hopefully, with a bit of luck, Assassin’s Creed Unity will be next.
