Assassin’s Creed fans are claiming Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is the best protagonist in the series.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is arguably one of the best games in the series. Its story, characters, mixture of land and sea gameplay, and of course, the next-level sea shanties are still heavily praised today.

However one of the best parts of the game for many people was Edward Kenway, the loveable rogue pirate who dreamed of fame and riches, only to lose everyone and everything and grow into the hero was meant to be.

Now, fans are looking back on the protagonist, and are hailing him as one of the best main characters the series has ever had.

FireyCrow asked the Assassin’s Creed subreddit: “Please give me Your opinion on Edward Kenway … Ok I started playing the Assassin's Creed franchise in 2013 so the first I played was newest at that time, Black Flag But after all these years completing the franchise I never felt the same joy that Edward gave me with another MC Am I alone or was Edward was more charismatic compared to the others?”

Many agreed that he’s the best, praising Matt Ryan’s incredible portrayal of the character as well as the brilliant writing of his story in Black Flag.

“He's my second favourite protagonist behind Ezio. Matt Ryan absolutely kills it”

“Love him. Ezio is still my favourite character, but Edward a very close second. Had we gotten the same time playing as him - I think he could’ve become my number 1, it’s just hard to beat Ezio with the time we’ve played as him.”

“Edward is definitely my favorite AC protagonist. It was interesting watch his story unfold. That's partly why I chose Black Flag as my first AC game for the Switch. Another is because of Matt Ryan. Loved him as Constantine.”

Hopefully, the upcoming remake will create even more fans of the character, hopefully paving the way for his return in a sequel or spin-off title, like his planned appearance in Assassin’s Creed Titans.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch platforms.
