Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is regarded by many as the best in the Ubisoft series, a notion that is difficult to dispute and one that I certainly wouldn't disagree with.

Released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag can be seen as one of the last traditional entries in the series, arriving before Assassin’s Creed Rogue in 2014. One of the best aspects of Black Flag other than its open sea pirating adventures, was playing as its charismatic protagonist, Edward Kenway.

“The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic where corruption, greediness and cruelty are commonplace. Among these outlaws is a brash young and selfish Welsh captain named Edward Kenway,” reads the synopsis. “Kenway joins with Blackbeard and other legends of the sea to become the bane of Templars and the enemy of empires.”

In terms of today’s story, the Assassin’s Creed franchise in the world of movies hasn't shared the same level of success as its video game counterpart. Which is obviously why we’ve only had one big cinematic release, you know, that one starring Michael Fassbender aka Magneto?

Still, the failings of the 2016 Assassin’s Creed movie haven't stopped fans from fantasy casting Chris Hemsworth as Edward Kenway and to be honest, we think he’s a perfect choice. Though it’s a shame that this movie may never happen, at least officially anyway.

An ‘Assassin’s Creed Black Flag’ concept trailer has been created by the YouTube channel Smasher and it cleverly infuses a live-action trailer from Ubisoft, with the movie In the Heart of the Sea starring Chris Hemsworth. Give the trailer a watch and then go politely hound Ubisoft to bring this awesome concept to life.

In related news, an industry insider claims that an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is currently in the works, and the original game has recently received free DLC. Happy days!

As for the near future of the Ubisoft series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage starring Basim Ibn Ishaq from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla releases on 12 October 2023 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
